Last night we began our Academy Award Best Picture Challenge. Our first movie was 1930's winner The Broadway Melody of 1929. It was the first musical to ever win this category and we didn't really know what to expect. The movie cinematography and acting was good for its time and I was surprised to see the ladies dancing around in shorts and tanks but it was the roaring 20's and New York City. The plot line is just like all the ones now but much classier---the love story, the older over protective sister who wants to live her dreams through her younger sister, the beautiful girl who every guy falls for, the guy who tries to take advantage of the pretty girl , and the pursuit of dreams! You can definitely see how society has changed in terms of courtship, chivalry and personal dialogue.
Check it out! Your comments are welcome! :) Can't wait for the next challenge,1931's winner, "All quiet on the western front."
